Chelsea Midfielder Lampard Prepared To Play Holding Role – With Catch

Frank Lampard has no problem playing a holding role in Chelsea’s midfield.

Lampard was deployed as one of two deep midfielders as the Blues continued pre-season preparations on Wednesday by thrashing Hong Kong champions Kitchee 4-0 in the Barclays Asia Trophy.

“I have played there for England fairly regularly but I do like to get forward and this won’t be a role that will stop me getting into the box,” said Lampard.

“As long as I’m never told not to stray beyond the half way line, I’ll be happy. I’ve never been that kind of player anyway. Some people can play there but I don’t think so.

“Pre-season is always been about getting yourself fresh and I really feel I’m getting there. If I didn’t feel I was getting there I wouldn’t want to hang around too long.

“I love getting into box, getting up and down the pitch. I know I can do it now and, hopefully, I can do it for a few more years. I know that day will come although I will probably be sold before then.”
