Aston Villa are confident seeing off Everton to land Wigan Athletic winger Charles N’Zogbia.
The Mail on Sunday says Villa are expected to push through a £10million deal for N’Zogbia this week despite Everton’s bid to hijack the deal.
Goodison Park boss David Moyes identified N’Zogbia as the man to bolster the left side of his team and hoped the Frenchman’s desire to stay in the north-west would be a key factor.
But with Everton having to sell either Jack Rodwell or Phil Jagielka before they can finance the move, Villa are going to meet Wigan’s asking price.
Villa manager Alex McLeish had become exasperated in negotiations for 25-year-old N’Zogbia, believing a £9m fee had been agreed only for Wigan chairman Dave Whelan to up his asking price by £1m after Villa sold Stewart Downing to Liverpool for £20m.
N’Zogbia is happy to move to the Midlands because Everton cannot guarantee they will find the money for him unless they first sell.
