The chairman of Swansea City, Huw Jenkins, has hit out at the media for speculating on players who will join the club.

The Swans have had a quiet transfer window so far, signing only Steven Caulker from Tottenham Hotspur, Danny Graham from Watford and Jose Moreira from Benfica.

But they continue to be linked with players such as Newcastle United’s Wayne Routledge and David Stockdale of Fulham as they look to bolster their squad ahead of their first season in the Premier League.

Jenkins, though, is frustrated by the constant rumours flying around the media and says it is misleading supporters.

“I know speculation and rumour is part of football, especially at Premier League level. But it is getting an absolute farce and it’s not fair on the club or the supporters,” he told the club’s official website.

“If we had signed even 50% of the players we are supposed to be in talks with over the last few weeks then we would not only have the biggest squad in the Premier League, but in Europe.

“It’s turning into a farce and supporters are being misled and fooled every day with some of the players we are being linked with. It’s disrespectful to our fans.

“For example, some of the foreign players we have apparently moved for we haven’t even heard of. And to make matters worse, some of these players we have never spoken to have gone on to turn us down because we can’t agree terms.

“It’s important supporters are aware of this because when we have something definite to announce we will do so through the official website or direct statements through myself or the manager.”

Jenkins mentioned by name James McFadden and Mariano Pavone as two players who are not moving to Wales.

McFadden is currently plying his trade with Birmingham City, whilst Pavone was expected to join Blackburn Rovers having bought out his contract with Real Betis.

The Argentinian spent last season on loan at River Plate where he scored eight times in 18 appearances, but missed a crucial penalty which saw them relegated for the first time in their history.
