Wigan Athletic midfielder Charles N’Zogbia has refuted reports that he has gone on strike but has moved to reaffirm his desire to leave the club.
The winger was the subject of a £9 million bid from Aston Villa as they look to replace Stewart Downing but the bid was rejected by owner Dave Whelan, who is believed to be looking for £10m for the player.
Yet whilst the Frenchman is adamant he wants to leave the club, he has insisted he will not be asking for a transfer nor staying away from training.
“It has been two and a half years. I have given enough,” N’Zogbia told reporters.
“If they want any more it is for the club to decide. It is not for me to demand a transfer.”
Indeed when questioned about rumours of his refusal to take part in training N’Zogbia was quick to reject any such claims.
“Me, strike? Not at all. Come and see me at Wigan, you will see that I train every day,” he added.
“There was an offer from Villa, which Wigan refused. I have not been offered a contract extension by the club.”
N’Zogbia did not travel with the rest of the Wigan Athletic squad who left for a six-day pre-season tour of Austria, fuelling speculation that his departure from the DW Stadium is imminent.
