Over 50 teams will tussle it out for the National Championship honours starting this morning at Namboole. “It is a very huge turn up,” Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) publicity secretary Namayo Mawerere said yesterday.
“We also expect all our top runners to grace the championship,” he added.
Among the elite runners scheduled to compete in the two-day event are Moses Kipsiro and Annet Negesa.
Commonwealth champion Kipsiro has been bedridden for the past few months and there were doubts about his participation today.
But Mawerere noted Kipsiro will compete. Negesa, the Africa junior 800 champion is currently the woman to beat in middle distance races. She is tipped to win an 800m and 1500m double.
Most athletes will try to qualify for World Championships due August 27 to September 4 in Daegu, South Korea.
