The opposition New Patriotic Party has been accused of supporting and promoting the activities of homosexuality in Ghana.

A presidential staffer at the deputy chief of staff office, Alhaji Halidu Haruna who made the allegation says comments by some members of the opposition shows their approval of acts of homosexuality.

Drawing the recent condemnation of religious leaders for their position on homosexuality by former Presidential Advisor on reproductive health Prof F.T. Sai that gays who practice the act in the comfort of their privacy must not be condemned, Alhaji Halidu says the learned professor by that comment showed approval and endorsement and by extension the party he belongs.

Prof. Sai is reported to have said “if I take Christianity which is my religion, in the Old Testament, God asked Moses to have a man stoned just because he went fetching firewood on the Sabbath. Who will kill a man today for not going to church and going to fetch firewood…Christ says be tolerant; Love your neighbor as yourself so those commands of Christ need to be looked at in relation to how we feel about [homosexuality].”
But the National Democratic Congress activist disagrees.

Contributing to a discussion on the recent call by the Western Regional Minister that gays be arrested on Adom TV’s morning Show “Badwam” on Multi TV, the onetime spokesperson of the National Hajj Committee questioned the deafening silence of the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party [NPP] Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo and the party on the issue of homosexuality and declare his stance.

He alleged that some prominent lawyers within the NPP has come public trying to use the law to support such an act that members of the Christian and Moslem religions condemns and detests. Alhaji Halidu says the removal of Religious and Moral Education from basic school curricular by the erstwhile Kufour administration has contributed to the moral decadence in the country.

Member of Parliament for Evalue-Edwira Ms. Catherine Afeku who was a co-panelist on the program took exception to comments by the NDC activist.

She also called for a comprehensive policy from government on the way forward when it comes to the issue of homosexuality. Ms. Afeku says government is dragging its feet on the matter to prevent the current confusion in the system.
