The Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency received General Bernard Commins on behalf of President Paul Biya.
It took some 20 minutes for the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency, Luarent Esso to make a round of the strong military cooperation ties that exist between Cameroon and France. The discussions were during an audience at the Presidency granted to Brigadier General Bernard Commins, on behalf of the Head of State by the Secretary General at the Presidency of the Republic. Brigadier General Bernard Commins, who is in charge of French troops in the Republic of Gabon, was accompanied to the audience yesterday, July 20, 2011 by his Director of Cabinet and the French military attaché in Yaounde.
Talking to the press after the audience, the French army general who is at the end of his two-year mission said he was in Cameroon to express the appreciation of his forces to Cameroonian authorities for the excellent collaboration they had working with Cameroonian soldiers. He said joint trainings with the Cameroon armed forces were enriching and mutually beneficial to both soldiers. Brigadier General Bernard Commins noted that the audience permitted him to pass on to the Head of State through the Minister of State, Secretary General at the Presidency their satisfaction of having worked with Cameroonian military officers under good conditions.
Concerning the state of military cooperation between Cameroon and France, Brigadier General Bernard Commins noted that they were good. For two years, he explained, they have been improving the level of military ties between both countries. He cited the example of the training of Cameroonian commandos, working on transmissions, administration and logistics with Cameroonian soldiers and the opportunity they had to send some of their soldiers to train in the North Region of Cameroon under tough conditions.
In all, the French Army General pointed out that it was interesting having the opportunity within the past two years for French and Cameroonian military to train together and learn from each other. The audience which started at about 10:10 a.m. ended by 10:20a.m.
