The Ministries of Secondary and Basic Education have released the calendar for the 2011/2012 academic year. The schedule shows that classes will begin on September 5, 2011 and end on July 27, 2012. The release was jointly signed on July 6 by Youssouf Hadidja Alim for Basic Education and Louis Bapès Bapès for Secondary Education.
The calendar is divided into six sequences, including vacations, public holidays and long weekends. The first sequence will run from September 5 to October 14, 2011 while the second will begin from October 17 to November 25, 2011.
From November 28 to December 16, 2011 and January 3 to 20, 2012, pupils and students will be on the third sequence. The fourth sequence is schedule for January 23 to March 2, 2012. From March 5 to 23 and from April 9 to 27, pupils and students will be on the fifth sequence while the sixth will begin as from April 30 to June 8, 2012
Notwithstanding, pupils and students will go on Christmas holidays as from December 19 to resume on January 3, 2012. Easter holidays will begin on March 23 and ends on 9 while the long vacation, according to the school calendar, will start on June 8 for pupils and students not in certificate classes.
Official examinations for nursery and primary schools have been programmed from June 20 to July 2012. May 21 has been reserved for secondary technical education while examinations for Technical Teacher’s Training Colleges according to the school calendar are scheduled to hold from June 4 to July 27, 2012.
The ministries concerned, however, will release details again ahead of examinations. Students writing certificate examinations are programmed to take-off for the long vacation on July 27. The 2012/2013 academic year, according to the school calendar, is supposed to begin on September 3, 2012.
The release further says apart from official public holidays and those fixed by Presidential texts, any class or lecture can only be interrupted by the ministries concerned. Secretaries General, Inspectors General of services, Inspectors General of education, Inspectors of Pedagogy, Directors of Central Services, Office of the Baccalaureate of Cameroon, the Registrar of the GCE Board, National Secretaries of Private Education, Divisional and Sub-divisional Delegates and school heads have been charged to strictly respect the calendar.
