Arsenal have been told they must up their bid for Phil Jagielka to £18 million after having a £12m offer for the centre-back turned down by Everton, according to the Daily Mail.
The former Sheffield United defender signed a four-year contract extension in March and the Toffees are demanding a hefty fee if they are to allow one of their star players to leave.
Jagielka, 28, played a big role in the Everton team which reached the FA Cup final in 2009 but missed the match after rupturing his cruciate ligament.
He returned last term to make 33 league appearances for the Toffees as they recovered from a poor start to finish seventh.
Everton manager David Moyes was adamant that defender Joleon Lescott would not leave the club in the summer of 2009, before he was sold to Manchester City for £22m, and a similarly large bid will be needed from the Gunners to prise away one of the Merseyside club’s biggest assets.
