Security expert Dr. Ennin has clashed with parliament in a series of debate over the purchase of 5 aircrafts for the Ghana Airforce.
In a response to caution by some members of parliament to what they describe as unfair comments by Dr. Ennin in relations to the agreement before the house, Dr. Ennin accused parliament of failure to effectively execute its duties.
The security expert at the Kofi Annan Peace Keeping Training Center had earlier argued on Adom FM for an assessment of internal security needs in comparison to Ghana’s international security needs which informed government’s decision to procure the aircraft.
However some members of parliament raised concerns about the comments of Dr. Ennin; some even suggesting ignorance on Dr. Ennin’s part in the discussion.
But Dr. Ennin insists that he is prepared to defend his statement on any platform adding that he will continue to share his thoughts on national security issues irrespective of what MP’s say about it.
He was unhappy about he termed as politicization of national issues.
On the suggestion that he should have contacted parliament for additional information before making comments on the purchase of the aircraft, he said the parliamentary ‘hanzard’ was not available as of Friday morning.
Dr. Ennin expressed shock at the reaction of parliament adding that he as a tax payer he has the right to comment on national issues. According to him having interacted with the parliamentary select committee over the last 12years, he expects parliament to be ready to engage.
“They can come and meet me if they want us to talk but they should not expect me to carry my research results under my armpit and chase them to parliament” he said.
He said he is ready to share his expertise with the legislature when they invite him.
Dr Ennin was quick to add that this is not the first time he has been attacked; citing a similar verbal attack on him when he shared his professional views during the Kuffour administration when similar agreement was put before the house.
Asked if he will be ready to appear before the privileges committee over concerns that he has disrespected parliament, he said, as a citizen he sees no wrong in his comments.
