Lugazi — It was business as usual for Grace Ochieng Onito alias Ocici at the City Tyres Mehta Open Golf tournament in Lugazi over the weekend.
Ocici was supposed to be playing in his first tournament as a professional but after some local officials contended his and three others’ moves, challenging Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) to hold another pro-qualifier, the youthful Jinja golfer used it as an opportunity to win another amateur title.
The 20-year-old finished joint first with Entebbe’s Patrick Mugisha, both totaling 144 gross after 36 holes but Ocici took the overall honours after cutting his rival to size in the sudden death playoff.
Monica Ntege took the ladies gross prize whereas Brian Mwesigwa grabbed the lion’s share of the Shs3m bounty set aside for the professionals after he carded seven-under 65.
