Kampala — The Uganda Super League (USL) 2011/12 season thrusts into action in over a month’s time with a massive encounter in which URA start their title defence at Express on September 9. Six-time league champions Express will have just about everything tactical new, with ex-Masaka coach James Magala taking charge of the Red Eagles’ dugout at Wankulukuku for the first time since replacing Sam Ssimbwa.

And what a way to start his Express coaching career against the reigning kings in what will arguably be the first live game of the season on SuperSport as the South African broadcasters begin their five-year Shs12b deal with USL proper.

    Magala expectant

“It is good opening against the defending champions and being at home, we will not want to start poorly,” said Magala. “Tough one,” remarked URA skipper Manko Kaweesa. “But if we prepare well, we will be good.” The new first round fixtures were released yesterday after Fufa and the USL compromised to promote three teams two weeks back. But the USL had to recall relegated Fire Masters to achieve an even number of 16 clubs.

Seven-time kings KCC, record 16-occassion winners SC Villa, one-time champions Bunnamwaya and Victors will not open their campaigns until September 20. The aforementioned have more than two players on under 23 team and the Uganda Cranes, who will be travelling to Maputo, Mozambique for the All Africa Games (Sept 3-18) and Angola for the Nations Cup qualifier (Sep 3/4) respectively.

These fixtures are subject to change depending on TV (SuperSport) schedule.
