The Director of Press to the Borno State Governor Zanna Usman Chiroma said the Governor Kashim Shettima hasn’t fled from Nigeria and has no intention to do so.
The state capital, Maiduguri, is the centre of Boko Haram uprising and dozens of people have been killed. Solders were deployed there to restore peace.
Chiroma who was reacting to a newspaper publication saying that Shettima had fled abroad said, “Governor Shettima has never left the shores of Nigeria since his inauguration. He has been to Abuja on several occasions on official duties in his pursuit for peace and sustainable development.”
He said Shettima has been walking the streets of Maiduguri, inspecting damage by explosions, visiting casualties, consoling people and urging them not to flee.
