PDP BoT meets Tuesday

*To ratify Baraje, Babayo as Ag Chairman, Secretary

ABUJA – THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, has fixed Tuesday, July 26, for its meeting at the Banquet hall of the Presidential villa, Abuja.  The meeting is coming two days before that of the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting which is slated for Thursday, July 28, 2011.

A statement yesterday by the Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, read: “All members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, are hereby invited to the 37th meeting of the Board.”

Baraje advised all members expected to be punctual at the meeting which will commence at 8pm.

Though the agenda of the meeting was not made available to newsmen, Vanguard gathered that issues to be discussed are the ratification of Abubakar Baraje and Musa Babayo as Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary respectively.

The new arrangement became imperative, following the appointment of the former Acting National Chairman of the party, Dr. Bello Haliru Mohammed, as Minister of Defence.

For vacancy not to be created within the PDP family, President Goodluck Jonathan, who doubles as  leader of the party, last week called for a meeting of the National Working Committee, NWC, members, some party stakeholders and leaders on the need for Baraje, Babayo to continue with affairs of the party along side other members of the NWC until a special National Convention was held and a new executive put in place.

If the BoT, advises that Baraje from Kwara, North Central, functioned as Bello Haliru Mohammed’s successor and Babayo from Bauchi State, North East, as the Acting National Secretary, the party would now draw up a programme for the convention as well as  congresses.

Members of the BoT will also discuss and recommend to NEC whether the decision of holding a special national convention in November this year, to elect new national officers for the party, as against the earlier date of March 2012, should be endorsed.
