Mathare United dominated but ultimately failed to break down the Gor Mahia defence as the teams fought out a barren draw in a Kenya Premier League encounter at Nyayo stadium yesterday. Mathare started the match looking to draw first blood with young striker Jesse Were ably supported by Kevin Kimani and Innocent Mutiso from the flanks a constant menace to the K’Ogallo defence.

Moses Odhiambo scorer of last week’s stunner was given a start but he, like most of his teammates, failed to shine.Haji Mwachoki was introduced for Makori in the second half as coach Zedekiah Otieno looked to turn his sides fortunes around But it was Mathare again who looked like they could score with Tirus Omondi shooting straight at Onyango as the second half started. In the 55th minute Congolese Demonde Selenge found himself one on one with goalkeeper Ruto but he dithered with the ball allowing Lloyd Wahome to recover and clear.

More changes were made as both teams looked for the elusive opening goal with Mathare sending in Andrew Tololwa, Kevin Opiyo and Dan Matengo for Mutiso, Omondi and Were while Gor introduced Kevin Omondi for Odhiambo and Ezekile Odera for Selenge. Earlier at the Nairobi City Stadium KCB ended their run of six matches without victory as they came from behind to whip league leaders Rangers 3-1. Rangers opened the scoring in the 10th minute courtesy of Edwin Mwaura but Eric Okoth restored parity eight minutes later. Late goals from substitutes Brian Sumba and Kennedy Odhiambo earned Leonard Saleh’s side three points.
