THREE COMPANIES based in the country have presented a cheque for GH¢55,000 to Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology to sponsor its first Ghana Science Congress slated for August 2, 2011.

Interplast Ghana Limited presented GH¢25,000; Kosmos Energy, GH¢20,000 while Polytank Ghana Limited presented GH¢10,000 to help make the congress a success.

Presenting the cheque, Michael D Murphy, Vice President and Country Manager of Kosmos Energy, noted that his outfit will be committed to the congress, likewise the representatives from Interplast and Polytank Ghana Limited.

All the three representatives hoped that the congress would be used as a platform to develop the country.

Speaking at the brief ceremony in Accra, Ms Ayittey commended the companies for having the passion to sponsor the science congress, noting that their kind gesture would always be remembered by both present and future generations.

According to her, the congress aimed at promoting the application of science and technology as the ultimate tool for sustainable development in the country.

She indicated that no country could develop without taking the necessary steps at improving its environment, science and technology.

She also explained that the science congress was a call from government to take the ministry’s innovation to the highest level in order to develop Ghana.

She is therefore appealing to the international community and corporate entities to support the congress to become a success.
