Barcelona are confident a £35 million offer will be enough to sign Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, according to The Independent.
The Gunners midfielder has long been linked with a return to Camp Nou, and a deal could be completed this week as Barca prepare to increase their offer after having bids of £27m and £31m already rejected.
Arsenal have maintained a £40m stance over their captain all summer but it is believed a deal worth £37m would be enough to grant Arsene Wenger’s blessing for a move back to Spain.
Fabregas looks set to reject Wenger’s latest pleas this week over a new two-year extension and a substantial pay rise on his current £90,000-a-week deal.
Wenger will hold discussions with his captain within the next 48 hours before the team travel to Germany on Friday for their pre-season training camp.
If the offer is finally accepted, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola wants the signing wrapped up in time for the midfielder to make his debut against Manchester United a week on Sunday, where they will meet in Washington on their pre-season tours.
It is also believed that if Fabregas does leave, team-mate Samir Nasri will be forced to stay, with Arsenal reluctant to allow two of their star players to leave.
