An Abuja Magistrate Court Friday sentenced an 18-year-old student to two months’ imprisonment without fine option for abducting a six-year-old boy at Wuse Zone 2, Abuja.
Sunday Jimoh of no fixed address was charged with abduction and attempt to commit an offence, which are contrary to Sections 272 and 95 of the Penal Code.
Prosecutor Francis Tanko told the court that on July 14, one Shehu Mohammed reported at Wuse Police Station that on the same date, he sent his nephew to buy Etisalat recharge card from the neighbourhood and the accused, who camouflaged himself in a school uniform, lured the boy to an unknown destination.
He said the boy was abducted within the vicinity of Wuse Zone 2 with the intent of stealing his mother’s Samsung handset valued at N25,000 before the accused was apprehended with the said handset.
The prosecutor equally told the court that the accused has been brought in the past to Wuse Police Station on two different occasions, before his present arraignment, adding that he attempted to run away when the police arrested him.
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and pleaded for leniency, saying, he wanted to sell the handset in order to raise some money for himself.
Magistrate Musa Jobbo after listening to both the prosecutor and the accused, sentenced him to two months imprisonment without fine option, adding that the recovered handset should be returned to the rightful owner.
