The national athletics federation has locked out athletes who qualify late for international event, after setting the national championships due July 22-23 as the final qualifying date for the World Championships and All Africa Games.
The move is aimed at ensuring that the federation gets ample time to train and monitor all the athletes that have qualified for international competition as a means of producing well prepared athletes to the events.
In the past, injured or poorly trained athletes, some of them failing to compete in international events have benefitted from such trips, using funds that would have been diverted to improving the game.
