THE Agricultural Society of Kenya Kisii Show is set to open it’s gates tomorrow. Branch chairman Peter Mogendi said they have invited Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to open the show on Friday and are optimistic that he will come. The chairman said the show aims to raise Sh3.5 million from gate collections, compared to last year’s Sh1.2 million.

He said this will be achieved through three additional gates put up to curb congestion at the two main gates. Mogendi said they also intend to collect Sh1.5 million through trade rent as compared to Sh1.2 million last year.

He said they have over ten new exhibitors including Bank of Africa, Borabu Sacco, Iriany Sacco Society, Kari, Spring Valley Fish farm. “We projected to receive over 60 exhibitors this year but those who have since confirmed participation are 50,” he said. Mogendi said they had hoped to be supplied with water by Gusii Water and Sanitation Company but their quotation of Sh35,000 is too high.

He said they opted to hire locals to supply water at the show. “What is more disturbing is that the company wants us to pay the bills upfront even before we start using the commodity,” Mogendi said. Efforts to reach GWASCO managing director Eng John Mogoba for comment bore no fruit as he was said to be away on official duties.
