Newcastle United midfielder Cheikh Tiote insists he is happy to stay and do his job at the club.

The Ivorian has been linked with Chelsea following a knee ligament injury to Michael Essien that will rule the Ghanaian out for six months.

The 25-year-old signed a new six-and-a-half-year contract back in February and appears happy to see it out.

Tiote told the Evening Chronicle: “I am a Newcastle player and I will do my job in Newcastle.

“I have a contract and that is the most important thing for me. I’m happy – if I wasn’t happy, I wouldn’t have signed for six years.”

Newcastle have denied that the west London outfit have made an approach for the player, who moved to the Premier League last summer from FC Twente.
