Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is confident next season will be his best yet, and is also hopeful he can continue playing for another 10 years.

Van Persie will be 28 by the start of the 2011-12 campaign, and whilst his career has been hampered by injuries in the past, the Dutchman still managed to find the net 18 times since the turn of the year – equalling the record number of goals scored in the second half of the season.

The forward will also hope to extend his record for the number of consecutive strikes in away games, looking to continue against Newcastle on August 13 when the new Premier League season begins.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Van Persie said: “I was 27 last year and everyone would think that you have an amazing start to the season and then maybe grow from there. But I had an injury and needed time to get back to fitness.

“The second part of last year, I scored 18 Premier League goals so it’s strange. You can’t really tell beforehand whether you are going to have your best year because you don’t really know what is going to happen. If it goes your way, I do believe that this could be a really good year for me.

“The way I see it is that I am halfway through my career now. I have been playing for 10 years and I’d like to play for at least 10 more years. Of course I want to win things but winning things doesn’t come from out of the blue. I’m just a part of the whole story, it depends on many things.”
