There is a feeling amongst the Rugby Cranes ranks that two tries on Saturday will be enough to grab the Elgon Cup from Kenya’s firm grip.
Mathematically, it is easy even after a morale sapping second half collapse which gave Kenya a 27-10 victory in the Nairobi first leg last weekend. This belief supersedes the below par international season where Uganda have won only one of their four games.
Furthermore, Kenya hold a superior head-to-head record which stands at 13 wins in 20 games overall between the two East African neighbours. Uganda have won six with one stalemate in clashes stretching back to 1958.
Enroute to winning the 2007 Africa Cup, the ruggers beat Kenya 24-12 in perhaps the biggest result of all. Since clashes were re-modeled to constitute the Elgon Cup in 2004, Rugby Cranes has beaten Kenya on four occasions in 12.
“By the way, this weekend’s game is there for us to win if we avoid small mistakes and finish the job,” back Benon Kiiza said. Many of his teammates and technical staff cannot agree more even if head coach Yayiro Musisi Kasasa thinks the season could have delivered more than it has already. The game starts at 4pm.
