It is hard to run a big tournament without any flaws. Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) had their fair of flaws on Day One of the Africa T20 Championship, last Saturday. With matches already underway, teams’ refreshments were not anywhere in fridges.
Yet, the day’s searing heat was taking its toll on almost everyone. The scoring systems on both grounds (Kyambogo and Lugogo) were also repeatedly on and off. This brushed team managers the wrong way. But UCA chief executive officer Justine Ligyalingi worked quickly to avert the looming crisis.
ICC’s senior development doordinator for Africa Graham McMillan, had, however, noticed everything. “Bad beginnings always make good endings,” said McMillan when asked about the tournament’s organisation.
“I think UCA has a great team of volunteers.” This is UCA’s first time to host a tournament in 10 years.
