Huambo — The Angolan Ombudsman, Paulo Tjipilica, on Wednesday in Huambo considered as positive the conditions of accommodation, food, health and sanitation offered to inmates in this city, in clear respect for human rights.
“I saw positive and negative aspects and noticed that the inmates have the right to three meals per day, show good appearance of sanity and they were unanimous in recognising the efforts of the executive towards improving their condition”, he stressed.
This was revealed by the Ombudsman at the end of his assessment visit to Huambo City Prison, having also highlighted as positive aspect the dynamics of Prosecuting Counsel magistrates, who regularly visit the prisons, which helps to reduce cases of excess of the period of remand.
Paulo Tjipilicaal also admitted that one of the negative aspects is the condition of infrastructures, which need improvement.
During his visit, Paulo Tjipilica explained to inmates the role played by the Ombuds Department.
The Ombudsman’s programme includes trips to the municipalities of Mungo, Bailundo and Caála, in Huambo Province.
