Speaking in random interviews with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) shortly after the declaration of President Evans Atta-Mills as the winner of the NDC presidential primaries, the delegates discussed the right of Mr and Mrs Rawlings to form a new political party and the effects of which such a party would have on the NDC.
While some said the formation of a new party by Mr and Mrs Rawlings was only a rumour and speculation, others said such an action would have no effect on the party as it would remain united.
Simeon Boatrie, a delegate from the Central Region expressed satisfaction with the way the congress was organised and said he was ready to support and work with President Atta Mills.
Salisu Be–Awuribe, a delegate from the Northern Region described the congress as one of the best in the recent memory of the country.
“The congress was of international standard. There were no arrests, no fears or intimidation,” he said.
He also said that there was no numbering of the ballot papers to identify those who voted for or against President Atta Mills to be singled out for victimization after the congress.
“We know the founder and how he plays his politics but I appealed to Mr and Mrs Rawlings not to breakaway from the NDC because it will not be good for them and the country”, he said.
Francis Dumah from Ashanti Region described the congress as calm and held in a generally peaceful atmosphere, he said “we were expecting that Konadu would step down but she did not, and her participation would lead to the improvement of a lot of things”.
He said if there was still a breakaway by Rawlings the NDC would still be united.
Mohammed Gomdah from Greater Accra Region also described the congress as good and urged Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to accept defeat and work harder next time.
