NAMIBIA recorded its first wins at the FIRS Inline Hockey Championships in Italy when they beat China 12-2 on Tuesday morning and then Venezuela 8-1 yesterday. However they also fell 9-1 to Australia yesterday.
Dominic Denker, Lars Dobberstein, Riyaan Ely and Stefan Ihms were among the scorers for Namibia against China.
The win against China was Namibia’s first in this year’s championships. And while the end result reflects a high-scoring game, credit should be given to Namibia’s team captain, Marco Debortoli, who played aggressive defence, resulting in repeated turnovers, with many leading to easy scores by teammates.
Namibia’s win over Venezuela secured a place in the Country Cup section after finishing as the third seed in Group D.
