Manchester United winger Antonio Valencia has returned to England after he sustained an injury to his ankle at the Copa America with Ecuador.
Speaking after the Red Devils’ 4-1 win over the New England Revolution, boss Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the player will return to Manchester rather than join up with the squad for their pre-season tour of the USA.
“Antonio has gone straight back to Manchester,” Sir Alex told reporters.
“He got an injury playing in the first game for Ecuador so he is back in Manchester.
“It is nothing serious but he wasn’t going to be taking part in the rest of Copa America, so there is no point in him coming out here if he is injured.
“We have the facilities back at Carrington. That is the best place for him.”
Valencia spent the majority of last season on the sidelines after breaking his ankle in a Champions League match against Rangers.
