Residents of Taita district will have to wait a little longer for the police to solve a mystery in which blood was poured at Wundanyi law courts and other government offices on June 9 2010. The police were accused of shoddy work after members in a meeting of the Court Users Committee in Wundanyi town blamed them for taking too long to release their investigation report. “It has taken far too long for the police to unearth the mystery surrounding the blood incident at the government offices in Wundanyi and in every meeting police say that they are still investigating.

We want you to conclude your investigations so that we can inform Kenyans exactly what happened since its now one year down the line,” said a participant at the meeting.

Police said they are still investigating and the blood samples have been taken to the government chemist for tests although the results are yet to be released.

In the previous meeting the police had said the blood was from a black cat which had been seen by the AP officers on duty the previous night. Taita District Criminal Investigation Officer Jane Mukuria who was at the meeting said that she was transferred to the area only a month ago, and called for more time to probe the matter.

Wundanyi Resident Magistrate Isaac Orenge, who chaired the meeting, said the police did not execute arrest warrants in time.

He accused the police of sleeping on the job and not drafting their charge sheets properly leading to litigants not getting proper justice. “Sometimes the court is forced to execute some judgments prematurely because the police fail to present some prosecution witnesses when required,” said the magistrate.
