The brother of an ex-convict who stabbed his cousin to death over a land dispute has been killed by villagers in a revenge attack in Gucha South District. Abel Isaiah, 40, stabbed his cousin Mose Mokua, 18, at Mogenda in Etago division, South Mugirango constituency, said area chief David Kenyanya.

Kenyanya said the families have had a long-standing land dispute. Isaiah escaped and angry villagers torched several houses belonging to his family. His brother Mokua Isaiah, who attempted to prevent the villagers from burning the houses, was hacked to death in the attack.

Gucha police chief Richard Ng’etich told the Star on the phone that Isaiah has not been found. “With the help of the public, we are looking for the assailant. I ask the residents to remain calm,” said. According to Ng’etich, the assailant was recently set free by a Gucha court. He was facing robbery with violence charges and had previously served jail terms for various offences. The police chief expressed concern over the increased number of killings in the area and cautioned locals against revenge.
