THE Oshakati Mayor Ben Kuutumbeni Kathindi has resigned from his position, as well as that of councillor, with immediate effect on June 30, after serving for only seven months.

His deputy Katrina Shimbulu has taken over.

Kathindi, an architect by profession and the owner of the Kathindi Architect Company, told The Namibian that he resigned with immediate effect because he want to be full-time in his business as well as be a consultant and an agent in many projects, especially those of the Government. This include projects by the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

” I have realized that the work was too much for me, I was overloaded with many responsibilities when I took up a Councillor and mayoral job in the Oshakati Town Council in December, because then I have to take care of my own projects and at the same time look after the Oshakati Municipal services,” Kathindi said.

Reliable sources in the Oshakati community told The Namibian that Kathindi was not comfortable with the slow pace of operation in the Oshakati Town Council, especially when it comes to the flood situation as well as the creation of the new Open Market (Omatala) at the town.

Others said he had enough of politics in the council by inexperienced and unprofessional councillors.

Shimbulu who has been the mayor of Oshakati several times before Kathindi took over from her last year is now in charge.
