Over 100 girls from Sagana All Saints Academy benefitted from an intensive karate training conducted by former South African Karate captain and coach, Jody Young.
Young, a 5th dan black belt was winding up his two weeks of training in Kenya with the national team. “I enjoyed my clinics in Kisumu and Sagana but the latter gave me most joy. I have seen great potential among these great girls. They are champion material,” Young said. Young said all the girls require is good teaching and hard work.
He said Kenya has a great chance of excelling in future continental and global competitions. He said most federations in Africa have neglected the female Karateka and he was happy that the Kenya Karate Federation had taken keen interest in this category. Young conducted intensive training at the Parklands Sports Club, Kisumu and Nakuru.
“He was working with the kumite and kata teams and helped them increase speed, enhance confidence and build techniques that will help them excel during All African Games and the African Zone 5 karate Championship later in the year,” said the KKF chairman Caleb Atemi.
