Minnows Rongena FC pulled a surprise when they rallied from behind to beat favourites Sotik in the ongoing Sh1 million Kass Chairman’s Cup tournament yesterday at Sotik ground.

Erick Mutai opened the scoring for Sotik 10 minutes into the first half after dribbling past the entire Sotik defence. Mutai added his second in 25th minutes after heading home a cross from his team-mate Leonard Maritim. After the breather, Rongena introduced a striker and a defender and the changes yielded a goal in the 54th minute courtesy of Charles Kilach, who converted a free kick a few yards outside the box to trail 1-2.

Kilach was on the mark again in the 70th minute with his second goal after good combination up front with Vincent Korir. Kilach, who was named ‘Man of the Match’ scored the winning goal for Rongena in the dying moments of the match.

The winners will lock horns with their arch rival Sachangwan at the same venue on Sunday.
