Newcastle United have completed the signing of 18-year-old Mehdi Abeid from Lens on a five-year deal.
The midfielder had a trial last season with Magpies and after seeing his potential, the club have moved to secure his signature.
Reserve manager Peter Beardsley told Newcastle’s official website: “We are delighted to bring Mehdi to the club.
“He is a bright, young talent and we think he has an exciting future ahead of him.
“After an impressive trial with us earlier in the year, I’m looking forward to working with Mehdi and developing his talent.”
Abeid becomes Newcastle’s third French signing of the summer transfer window, following Yohan Cabaye and Sylvain Marveaux in moving to St James’ Park, as they look to build upon last season’s solid Premier League finish.
