The president of Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Sani Ndanusa will today leave for Australia to participate in the evaluation of the Gold Coast’s Candidate City Bid for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The NOC boss was selected by the Gold Coast Bid Committee as the representative from Nigeria to participate at the event that will last five days.
While in Australia, Ndanusa will also witness an anticipated 25,000 competitors participate in the Gold Coast Airport Marathon before being hosted by Queensland Premier, Anna Bligh alongside other African delegation in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games marquee as well as seeing the proposed venues for aquatics, weightlifting/squash, hockey and the athletes’ village.
Ndanusa will thereafter, participate in presentations where discussions will be on themes as stated in the candidature city handbook before undertaking a scenic helicopter tour of Gold Coast City for aerial view to see how compact and close the proposed venues are to each other.
He will be guided also to proposed venues where lawn bowls, rugby 7’s, opening and closing ceremonies, athletics, netball, the main press centre and international broadcast centre will be located. Ndanusa is expected back on July 6.
