‘I have decided I want to play for England’ – Wolves midfielder Jamie O’Hara opts against representing Republic of Ireland

Wolves midfielder Jamie O’Hara is remaining confident that he can fight for a place amongst the England side, rather than opt to play for the Republic of Ireland.

The former Tottenham man has been part of the England set up all the way to Under-21 level, but the 24-year-old qualifies to play for Ireland and it was speculated he may work his way into the side following a failed attempt to make into Fabio Capello’s senior side.

Regardless of his shortcomings with the Italian manager, after seeing teammate Matt Jarvis earn his first cap for England against Ghana, O’Hara is looking to once again try to prove himself good enough for the national side.

“I have decided I want to play for England,” he told Wolves’ official website.

“It’s always been my ambition as a young player. I played in all the age groups through the years and now I’m looking to get off to a flying start.

“I’m looking to be a key figure for Wolves this season, and getting into the England squad is something I really want to do.

“I had a good end to last season and, coming into the new season, I want to have a cracking start and get into the England reckoning.

“I think it has been proved with this England manager that if you play regularly in the Premier League and do well, you have got a chance of getting in the squad.”
