Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas is confident his new club can attract the world’s “best talent” but has claimed he is under no pressure to buy.

The three-time Premier League champions side finished runners-up to Manchester United in the last season and have already been linked with a number of players so far this summer, with Tottenham already rejecting a £22 million bid for Luka Modric.

The former Porto boss feels that should the club decide to enter into the transfer market, they will still be able to attract the world’s elite players, and insists that he will have full control over any potential signings.

“Hopefully, that will happen as it does in any other club,” he told reporters. “We are able to go for the best in the market when we want, and we are able to find the best talent when we want.

“Everyone wants to come here.

“We have to bring the best quality players if we decide to bring them. There are no players imposed on me.”

But it might not be that bussy a summer, as Villas-Boas insisted that he is happy with his current crop of players and is looking to avoid wholesale changes to the squad.

“I’m more than happy with the actual squad,” he added. “It’s nothing new that, when a manager comes, radical changes are expected.

“We have plenty of time to judge the market.

“There’s no fuss in the changes we might need to do or not. The guys have to feel important.

“They’re top quality players, and I want to see them back so I can start taking decisions.”

With a number of key players the wrong side of 30, there has been some suggestions that the Chelsea squad may need a new injection of talent, but Villas-Boas reiterated his belief in the squad, insisting there is no need to rush into any changes.

“I don’t agree that the team is short of quality. I think we are up there.

“Minor changes can be done and we can put some input here or there in certain sectors, but my confidence in them is for them to return to me and judge from that.

“We have plenty of time up to August 31 end of transfer window to make a decision.

“These players have won a lot but still have hunger for success.”

Villas-Boas has already added Roberto Di Matteo to his backroom staff and insisted that he has no problem working with Michael Emenalo, who could be promoted to be the club’s new sporting director.

“The main thing is to build on the future and put competent people in the right places,” he said.

“We trust the people around this club because we’ve had a successful past six years that show we’re on the right track.”
