FARMERS should not get discouraged about employment creation because of legislation and administrative obstacles, Vekuii Rukoro, president of the Namibia Employers Federation (NEF) said at the 24th Agricultural Employers Association (AEA) congress in Windhoek last week.
According to him the non-governmental sector is responsible for 77 per cent of the total employment created in the country, even though unfriendly legislation such as certain articles in the Labour Act and the planned Employment Service Bill impede these attempts of the private sector, the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) said in its latest newsletter.
Rukoro said unemployment in Namibia is a national problem and pleaded for a closer and strategic cooperation between the private sector, the civil community, the workers and the authority. He praised Government that a substantial amount of money which was made available for employment creation in terms of the Targeted Intervention Programme for Employment and Economic Growth (Tipeeg) has been allocated to the agricultural sector.
Even though dialogue with Government to overcome certain obstacles in the process of employment creation sometimes is very frustrating, he still encouraged role-players to not get discouraged and continue with dialogue.
