Kufuor’s prize money to be used to promote leadership, development

The Propaganda Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Richard Quashigah has denounced claims by a member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Awuku who had accused the NDC of being behind threats against the Chief Justice. As far as Richard Quashigah is concerned, the accusations from the NPP man are "parochial, malicious and wicked." Mr Quashigah who was reacting to comments by Mr Awuku who had earlier said the alleged threats on the life of Chief Justice Theodora Georgina Wood was being orchestrated by the NDC, said “the NDC is a very law-abiding party and if indeed we want to embark on anything, we will do so through the right legal process.” Mr.

Former President John Agyekum KufuorFormer President John Agyekum Kufuor has told Joy FM he will use money from his recent international award to build a centre at the University of Ghana to promote leadership, governance and development in the sub-region.

Part of the money will also be used to complete a presidential museum and library on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology campus.

Mr Kufuor and former Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva were last Tuesday named winners of the 2011 World Food Prize. They will receive $250,000.

In an exclusive interview with Joy FM’s Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah, Mr. Kufuor said Africans tend to be gullible and simplistic when it comes to issues of leadership, a phenomenon he said should change if the continent must develop.

In view of this, the former president said the centre will start off as a think tank where people who have excelled in their fields of endeavour will be invited to interact with other participants.

He said in September when the project kick starts, a former German president will be invited to cut the sod for the project.

The full interview of the former president with Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah will be broadcast on the Super Morning Show on Wednesday.
