Wina Technical School in Nacfa which was established during critical times in the days of the armed struggle is making utmost preparations to celebrate its 25th anniversary (silver jubilee) from July 1 to 3, according to Mr. Tesfai Sium, director general of technical and vocational education in the Ministry of Education.

He explained that the setting up of the School was in line with the EPLF’s clear vision of nurturing skilled manpower who would play vital role in the nation-building process in the post-independence period. Nationals who pursued training course in the School are currently making vital contribution in the national reconstruction endeavors, Mr. Tesfai added.

Noting that a number of people used to flock to the liberated areas due massive inhume atrocities of colonial forces, he indicated that the Revolutionary School was expanding from time to time to accommodate up to Grade 8 level. In this respect, Mr. Tesfai stated that establishing of the school was quite imperative for nurturing junior technicians who could engage in multiple tasks.

The head of administration in the School, Mr. Berhane Araya, said on his part that the shortcomings and challenges encountered in the school used to be tackled through creative and innovative skill of staff members.

Wina Technical School that was opened in 1985 with 83 students, out of whom 44 were females is currently providing educational opportunities in various areas of study, including Auto-Mechanics, Wood Works, Metal Works, General Metals, Building Construction, Electricity, as well as Drafting and Survey.
