LAGOS-As the race for the chairmanship of the People Democratic Party PDP intensifies, the North East caucus of the party has embarked on lobbying the south west over the position which the party has zoned to the North East even as there are indications that the area is divided over its choice of candidate for the position.
Until few days ago, second republic governor of the old Gongola State cum business man Alhaji Bamanga Tukur , was favored as the suitable candidate from the zone but the entrance of former minister of commerce, Ambassador Idris Waziri from Taraba State might have altered calculation within PDP top echelon in the zone .
Sources in the North East revealed that Ambassador Waziri had been enjoying more support from the zone, a development that had divided the leadership of the zone on who to endorse between Alhaji Tukur and Ambassador Waziri .
It was also gathered that Waziri supporters from the zone were counting on supports from other zones especially the South West . The Waziri group , it was learnt, visited Lagos last week to drum up support for its candidate even as lobbyists were said to be making contacts across the country.
Other candidates in the race include, former governor of Gombe State Alhaji Danjuma Goje, second republic governor of the old Borno State Ahalji Mohammed Goni, Senator Jubril Aminu and former Bauchi State governor Adamu Mu’Azu.
