Manchester United target David De Gea is being already tipped to keep a clean sheet on his Red Devils debut with online bookmakers.
The Spanish goalkeeper underwent a medical in Manchester yesterday ahead of his proposed £20m move to the Premier League champions. De Gea will replace Edwin van der Sar who retired after the Champions League final.
Online bookmaker bet365 have De Gea @ 5/4 to keep a clean sheet for the Red Devils against West Bromwich Albion on the opening day of the season. United conceded three goals against the Baggies last season including a rare howler by Van der Sar in the 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.
Punters can also back De Gea to save a penalty @ 33/1 on his United debut. Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville infamously avoided punishment for a foul in the penalty box when the teams met on New Year’s Day. De Gea is 16/1 to concede a penalty and a longer 66/1 to be given a red card on his rookie Premier League appearance.
Bet365 spokesman Steve Freeth said, “De Gea has big boots to fill after Van der Sar’s retirement, but Fergie seems to have plenty of confidence in the youngster.”
David De Gea Performance – West Brom v Man Utd
Clean Sheet @ 5/4
Save Penalty @ 33/1
Concede A Penalty @ 16/1
Sent Off @ 66/1
(Stakes returned if De Gea doesn’t start against West Brom 13/08/11)
