I Regret Being in the Opposition Says Defector

As the political tempo begins to heat up in the country, a defector from the opposition to the ruling Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) party asserted that he regretted being in the opposition for so long.

Abdoulie Colley, who had been in the opposition for the past sixteen years, on Friday, 24 June 2011, defected to the ruling APRC. Colley made this assertion in the presence of the APRC mobiliser and Lord Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), Yankuba Colley and other APRC loyalists, at the party’s head office in Kanifing. Abdoulie Colley expressed his resolve to work hard at in the party for its success and called on Mayor Colley to extend his apology to the APRC leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh for being at the opposition all these years.

Welcoming the new member, the national mobiliser for the APRC, assured of equality in the party; that members are accorded fair treatment, be it new or old. “The APRC party is like Gambian culture; we are open to all who want the development and progress of this country,” he said.

For his part, Dr. Njogu Bah, minister of Works, Construction and Infrastructure, thanked the defector for such a move and told him to feel at home. He however called for collective efforts to move the APRC party forward. “The party belongs to all; everyone has a role to play for its betterment,” he asserted.
