Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, aspiring flagbearer of National Democratic Congress (NDC), on Wednesday said true African unity and sovereignty could only be achieved through a united front where economies of scale and free movement of people, goods and services were allowed to empower Africans economically and politically. “Once we have achieved economic and political power from our unity then we will be in the position to stand up to the dictates of the West and other economic powers that always wish to pursue their own interests in their interventions on the continent,” she added. Nana Agyeman-Rawlings, who is also the President of the 31st December Women’s Movement, made the observation in a message to mark the 48th anniversary of African Union (AU) Day in Accra.

Lubango — Displaced families that were hit by heavy rains in the provinces of Huila, Cunene, Namibe, Benguela and Kuando-Kubango will be re-housed in good areas as from December, an official source has announced.

This was guaranteed by the secretary of the President of the Republic for the social matters, Rosa Pacavira, who added that the areas for the building of the residences have already been identified.

The official said so to the press, at the end of a visit to Huila of a team led by the minister of Territory Administration, Bornito de Sousa.

Under the project, in Huila it will be built 6,000 residences, 5,800 in Namibe, the same number in Cunene, said the source who gave no details on the figures for Benguela and Kuando-Kubango provinces.

The works will be under the responsibility of national construction firms.
