KPA Man Defilement Case Heard in Camera

The defilement case against a senior Kenya Ports Authority captain was yesterday heard behind closed doors for the second time in a Mombasa court.

Senior resident magistrate Timothy Ole Tanchu, captain Geoffrey Ogaba Namadowa and his lawyer Francis Kadima, the prosecution and other lawyers proceeded with the case for more than three hours behind closed doors.

Ole Tanchu gave a directive that the members of the public and reporters leave the court room due to the sensitivity of the case in which Namadowa is charged with defiling a girl. The 14-year-old girl who was allegedly defiled by her uncle Namadowa came out of the courtroom crying after the hearing.

The Standard Five pupil at Nyali Primary School was dressed in the school’s white games kit. She is an orphan and was staying with the captain since her parents died.

She is currently under the care of Beatrice Naserian, a member of the women’s club, Soroptimist International, after the court granted a request from the children’s office for her protection.

The former Navy officer was charged with defiling the girl between April and May at Nyali estate in Kisauni district. He was arrested late last month and denied defiling the girl. He is out on a Sh400, 000 bond. The case will be heard on June 27.
