Kenya: KRA Name 27 Hotshots for Annual Bisley Shoot

Kenya Rifle Association (KRA) have named 27 full-bore target rifle shooters for the annual United Kingdom Bisley shoot scheduled for July 12-27. The team comprise of 12 marksmen from Armed Forces, 10 from Kenya Police, two from Kenya Wildlife Service and one from the Kenya Regiment Rifle Club.

The team, which departs on Wednesday will be accompanied by R.K. Mwarangu (head of delegation), Anthony Kamitu (team manager), Edward Legei (captain), Wilberforce Kerema (shooting co-ordinator) and the Satiender Sehmi (team coordinator). The team manager, Kamitu yesterday said the team has been in training for the last one month at Stoni Athi. “During our tenure in training, we have had the opportunity to fix our mistakes. The marksmen are in good form and we are optimistic of performing well during the UK Bisley event,” he said.

Captain Legei of the Presidential Escort Unit (PEU) said the performance of the team has improved tremendously. “We have both veterans and upcoming sharp shooters and we expect a sterling performance,” said the captain.

Legei said the team is expected to gauge their strength in the Century friendly competition planned for July 4-7 at the Surry shooting range, South West of London before proceeding for the main event on July 12-27 at the same venue. “The Century friendly build-up will be a shot range competition to be shot at 300-600 yards while the main event will be a long range covering 800-1000 yards,” said Legei.

Meanwhile, Mike Lekalaile collected 825-50 points to win the 74th edition of the Kenya Regiment Rifle Club (KRRC) Kenya Open full-bore target shoot at Stoni Athi over the weekend. He dethroned the seven-time Kenya champion Peter Mathenge (Dafra) who scored 811-64 points to win the Super Expert category. He was closely followed by Christopher Saina of GSU with 810-58 points.

John Serem of CID bagged 789-51 points to win the Expert category while Solomon Letoiya (ASTU) was his runner-up with 787-44 points.
