We need to improve the size of our squad. We need a bigger variety in the height of our players. We need to be more capable of fighting against some characteristics than we have been this season.

Arsene Wenger

It has been my dream since I was 11 years old to play at Barcelona. Who am I kidding? If it happens or not, that’s a different thing, because I do not have all the power.

Cesc Fabregas

It is very clear we had some shortcomings and in this close season we are going to see some turnover of players. Some new signings will be coming in and some of our existing squad will be going out. As Arsene has said, it will be a busy close season for the club.

Goal.com’s Verdict

This will be the transfer window when Arsene Wenger finally accepts he must spend serious money for Arsenal to challenge for trophies.

The future of Cesc Fabregas will, of course, be key this summer but the Gunners are determined to hold out for the £45 million they feel their captain is worth and, with Jack Wilshere a ready-made replacement, use the money to improve the team in other areas.

A quiet June has frustrated the club’s supporters but the wheels are turning behind the scenes. The signs are that Wenger is finally ready to address his side’s weakness in central defence and could spend the best part of £30m on Gary Cahill and Christopher Samba to add much-needed steel to the team.

A £10.6m deal for Lille winger Gervinho is close while Valencia star Juan Mata has emerged as a possible target to improve the Gunners’ attacking quality.

If Fabregas does complete a return to Barcelona, Arsenal will do everything in their power to keep Samir Nasri at Emirates Stadium – but Gael Clichy, Nicklas Bendtner and Andrey Arshavin are all available for transfer as Wenger looks for upgrades.

As an Arsenal fan, I ask: What dealings? Wenger needs to step up and bring in the big names – Ali Darwish

I think it’s time for Cesc to go – £30m and Thiago should be good. Shift Nasri into the centre and get Juan Mata out on the left – Matt Lawton
