Former Acting Secretary General of Nigerian Football Association, Fanny Amun has asked the Super Eagles technical crew led by Samson Siasia not to underrate the Barea of Madagascar, thinking that they are not a footballing nation.
The Japan ’93 FIFA U-17 World Cup winning coach appealed to Nigerians not to put pressure on the technical crew despite their love for the round leather game.
“When people say we are a footballing nation, we fail to know that, Madagascar is also one because they have been able to get to this stage of the qualifiers. In a nut shell, we do not have to underrate them. I know our players have a way of turning around things in the dying minutes of games, but I do not want us to rest on that.
“Nigeria is greater than anybody, so also the game of football. I am saying this because Nigerians are now hypertensive with the game against Madagascar. We do not need to put pressure on the team and the coaches ahead of the tie.
“I want to believe very strongly that the coaches are charge and the NFA knows the expectations of all Nigerians. I know they are working towards the objective. It is most unfortunate that they are dragged into the present controversies which has not allowed them to concentrate too well. But however, I implore them to put all that is needed in place for the coaches and relate with the players in a better way so they can collectively achieved their set goal,” Amun said.
“I am pleading with the NFA that despite the issues at hand in football, they should not be distracted by it. I know they have so many things on their hands, the female World Cup, the U-20 and the U-23, but I want to believe that they will pull all through for the benefit of the game in the country,” Amun added.
