‘Friends of Atta Mills’ launch ‘victory’ song

A song extolling the virtues of President John Evans Atta Mills and puts him up as the obvious choice for National Democratic Congress delegates attending the party’s July congress has been launched.

Sponsors of the song, Friends of Atta Mills, convinced he will win the July 9 flagbearer race to be held in Sunyani, are already appealing to party executives to endorse the song as the party’s campaign song for the 2012 general elections.

The song, YE DEE NI ATTA MILLS (Atta Mills is our choice), by Eddy Max, was launched at the Trade Fair Centre, La Accra, Saturday, a day after the party’s National Executive Committee, per a statement issued by General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, had distanced the party from the campaign song.

The launching was chaired by the party’s Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Kobina Ade Coker, who told Myjoyonline.com that it was “a private project” for President Mills’ bid to be re-elected flagbearer of the ruling NDC.

Eddy Max’s cheer song is anchored on the rhythm of Colombian pop star Shakira’s official 2010 World Cup song Waka Waka, and got patrons at the event easily singing and humming along as the young man led a group clad in NDC colours onto the stage for a performance.

Other notable persons in attendance were the Defence Minister himself; the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon and Deputy Minister for Agric in-charge of Fisheries, Nii Amasah Namoale; Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Chris Kpodo; MP for Damongo/Daboya, Sammy B. Wusah; MP for Saboba, Joseph Bukari Nikpe; MP for Chereponi, Samuel Jabanyite and Mr. Tom Budu, the Akyemansa District Chief Executive.

Mrs. Douha Smith who spoke of President Mills’ meekness and ‘God fearing’ as a blessing for Ghana, prayed that God will continue to bless the nation and all that the party does.

She appealed to the NDC to adopt the song as its campaign song for 2012, with the first copy of the CD selling for GHS1,000, bought by Mrs. Adjei Acheampong, who described herself as a businesswoman. Several other copies were also sold for between GHS100 and GHS20.

In a brief speech ahead of a live stage performance, Eddy Max asked voters to vote not for people promising them better situations, but for persons who are already delivering the goods, explaining that President Mills was already engaged in working for the people and not now promising it.
