The song titled: “Ye Dee Nie Atta Mills” (Atta Mills is our own)
highlighted the numerous developmental projects the government has put
in place to facilitate the better Ghana Agenda.
Mr Abdul Nasser Adams, a member of the group in an interview with
the Ghana News Agency in Accra, said the song was composed by Eddy
Max, a Ghanaian musician based in ltaly.
He said the group believed that campaign messages should not be
delivered only on platforms but also translated into songs for the
public to enjoy.
He said President Mills needed another four- year term, hence the
reason for the campaign song to showcase his achievement for the past
two and half years in power.
Party functionaries who graced the occasion included Lt General
Joseph Henry Smith, Minister of Defence, Chris Kpodo, Deputy Minister
of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration and Jewel Ackah, a leading
member.
Meanwhile the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party on
Friday June 24 issued a statement which distanced itself from the song
launch.
It said the executive should not be associated with the launching
ceremony.
“The NEC wishes to indicate that management of the party has no
knowledge of the song, and should not be associated with the…ceremony
scheduled for the International Trade Fair Centre, La, in Accra,” the
party said in a statement signed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, General
Secretary.
The statement said: “Although the NEC appreciates the zeal of its
individual members and contestants to use the party colours to promote
events, including songs, we wish to caution that such events or
programmes must be implemented within the confines of the party’s
rules and regulations.
“The NEC wishes to remind the party members and the general public
that the party is yet to elect its flag bearer for the 2012 elections
in line with Article 43 of the Party’s constitution.
“It is, therefore, premature for anybody to be presented as the
flag bearer of the NDC for the 2012 elections before the party’s
Special Delegates’ Congress, which comes off in Sunyani on the July 9.
